Animal Rescue Foundation (AFR)

In 1992, Dr. Laurie Flavin, a Calgary chiropractor, began rescuing stray and abandoned dogs from the Calgary Animal Services (the pound) to find suitable homes for them. In 1994, Laurie (known as the Dog Lady) was approached by the Animal Control Officer of the Siksika Nation near Gleichen, and was asked if she could take some abandoned reserve dogs and find them homes as well. At this time Laurie became aware of the huge problem of stray and abandoned dogs on Alberta Indian Reserves and decided to take on the enormous task of rescuing these dogs. Once she started it became apparent, that one person alone could not handle the influx of puppies and dogs, so Laurie, along with the help of two friends decided to form a charitable organization and in July 1995 the ANIMAL RESCUE FOUNDATION (ARF) was formed.
ARF is now a not-for-profit registered charity run completely by volunteers. Dogs, puppies and kittens are rescued from rural areas in the three reserves surrounding Calgary - the Tsuu T'ina (Sarcee), the Siksika (Blackfoot) and the Morely (Stoney), as well as the Blood Reserve in the town of Standoff, Alberta.

The Siberian Husky Husky Club of Greater Columbus (Ohio) is strictly a rescue
group dedicated to the Siberian Husky. We are unique in the sense that no
breeders are allowed and members must have their dog spayed or neutered. All
rescue dogs are placed with the same understanding..NO NEW PUPPIES! We have
placed over seventy Huskies in the two years of our existence as well as
helping owners understand the breed so they will keep them in their home. We
also send out info to anyone interested in this breed.
